Hair Health
The health of your hair is our number one priority. We have a plethora of services available to ensure your hair stays healthy. If you are just beginning your healthy hair journey and need to book multiple services, we recommend giving us a call, emailing scheduling@mixdsalon.com a photo of your hair, or booking a consultation and coming to the salon in person.
Outside of the salon, we have information here on our website for you. No matter what services you receive, we have a guide for you on how to continue your hair care at home. If there are other services you may be interested in for the future, please feel free to take a look at the in-salon and at-home process for each service.
Washing Hair
How to properly wash your hair
When you wash your hair, we recommend shampooing twice and using a conditioner. Wash until your hair is squeaky clean, and let the conditioner sit before rinsing it out. It is best to do your final rinse with cool to lukewarm water in order to seal the hair cuticle. If you comb your hair when it is wet, always keep in mind your hair is much more delicate when it is wet than when it is dry.
How often should I wash my hair?
How often you wash your hair depends on your hair type and lifestyle. If your hair tends to get oily quickly or you exercise frequently, you may need to wash your hair more frequently. Another option is using a co wash. A co wash helps to wash all the oils from your scalp down to the ends of your hair without drying out your hair too much.
If you wash your hair less frequently or use a lot of product in your hair, you may want to use a detox shampoo. This helps to remove any excess buildup on your scalp.
Treatments
Here in the salon, we have various in-salon Aveda treatments. These (and a haircut) are the best way to up your hair health quickly. Aveda’s botanical repair™ treatment helps damaged hair. Aveda’s nutriplenish™ treatment helps dry hair. Aveda’s scalp solutions treatment helps to deeply cleanse the scalp without drying it out. You can also ask for a custom treatment with your stylist to address all of your hair needs. All of the treatments have additional products from the same line available for retail if you want the effects of your in-salon treatment to last longer.
Cut and Style Services
Haircuts
How often to get your haircut
We recommend getting your haircut every 6-12 weeks. We also recommend trims every 2-4 weeks. We realize that this is a lot more than is usually possible with peoples’ busy lives. At the very least, we recommend 4 times a year during each season for a cut. If you keep your hair shorter, we recommend every 4-6 weeks. A haircut includes a wash and a cut. A bang trim is for clients who have bangs and may need to come in between haircuts to get them trimmed up. A trim is for clients who would like the smallest amount of hair possible removed from their ends. A reshape may show up on your receipt after your visit. This is if the stylist took off between a full haircut and a trim.
How to grow your hair longer
Rosemary is a great ingredient for hair growth. Ensuring your scalp is clean will also help to promote healthy hair growth. Using very minimal heat on your hair can help it grow as well. A healthy heat, like a blowout for example, should be okay for your hair. What you really want to stay away from when you’re growing your hair longer is hot irons. We also recommend getting treatments when your hair feels dry or damaged in order to preserve that hair. Whenever you can see through the ends of your hair, or if you can see any split ends, we recommend getting a trim.
Shampoo and Style
This is a maintenance service or a service you would book if you want a style for an event. All prices are quoted at a starting price. This service is not a blowdry or a haircut.
Maintenance Service
Shampoo and Style is typically a maintenance service for short hair. The process includes a wash, style with foam, sitting under the hood dryer, and a style using a flat iron close to the head.
Event Service
If you have long hair and an event coming up, you can also book this service. It would include a wash, blowdry, and then your desired style. We commonly see this service booked online. This service is not the same as a blowdry or a haircut.
*See Updo
Updo
An Updo is typically booked if you are attending an event and want your hair to be pinned up. It typically includes a wash, blowdry, iron work, and pinning the hair up. If you have an event and want to book more than just a wash and blowdry or want to wear your hair up, make sure to book for an updo so your stylist has adequate time to complete your desired look. Make sure to book this service even if you want a half up half down style. If you would like to test a look before an event, you can also call to book a trial appointment.
Silk Presses
Silk Presses are a process where your stylist washes your hair, dries it, and uses heat to style it. We recommend coming in for a silk press every 2-3 weeks. If you decide to get curls, don’t want them to drop, and want them to stay intact, then we recommend pin-curling your hair at home before wrapping it. A week in, your curls may drop but still have body. At this point, you can wrap your hair for a different look. If you didn’t get any curls with your silk press, you can wrap it every night to ensure your hair has nice movement and body. If you regularly get your hair pressed out, make sure to stay on top of your trims and treatments. If you come in every 2 weeks for a silk press, then every other time you come in you would book a treatment and a trim. For product, make sure to keep it very minimal. We recommend Aveda’s air control™ or another light hold hairspray on the mids to ends. We don’t recommend putting any product on your scalp.
Color Services
Determining what color to get
Not sure what color would best suit you? Book a consultation with a stylist or speak to them during another appointment at the salon. Our stylists are here to help find the perfect shade for you. If you already have a specific color in mind, speak to a stylist so they can help determine the best possible route to achieve your desired results. Color is very personal. All of the services listed below can be customized to your needs, but if you are booking your appointment online, these descriptions should help you determine what to book.
*If you have a perm do not get color and vice versa
Single Process
We have a couple or single process services. The first one is listed as “single process”. This is your initial color service. This means that you are getting all over permanent color without lightening your hair. Depending on the amount of hair you have, this is a 90 minute service. If you get a single process, then the next appointment you would book would be for a “root touch up”. For a root touch up, we recommend coming in every 4-6 weeks. It takes about 45 minutes for a root touchup depending on how much hair you have. If you’re getting your grays covered, we also offer a T-color service which helps cover the gray hairs in the front. Fun fact: some people have less grays in the back of their head!
Double Process*
If you get a double process (your roots completely bleached) we also recommend coming every 4-6 weeks. This is because the heat from your scalp will help to lift your hair. The longer you wait between appointments, the more uneven your hair will lift. It also becomes more expensive because eventually, it will be considered a color correction. If you are not able to come in every 4-6 weeks for a touch up, our stylists can help using either a transition shade or their technique so your color grows out nicely.

Balayage
If you want lighter hair that is a little bit lower maintenance, a balayage may be right for you. A true balayage is when the ends are lightened without any foils. This just makes the hair look like it was in the sun for a while. When most people book a balayage, they are looking for one with foils. These results will commonly appear when you Google the word “balayage”. Typically, the roots are kept natural and color is lighter on the mids and ends. Because of this, you can go longer between appointments. Since there are so many different balayage looks, if you are booking one be sure to have a picture you like saved. That way your stylist can best determine what you are going for.
*See Demi
Highlights
Here at the salon, we have a “half head highlight” service and a “full head highlight” service. People who frequently get their hair highlighted tend to book a half head service, which takes about 2 hours. A full head of highlights is for clients who want to be brighter. It takes around 4 hours for this service. Some clients get a half highlight the majority of the time because it is less time in the salon but will get a full one when they are feeling dark. Of course, every color service here is customized to you. If you want to get color in between a balayage, highlight, half, or full head, our stylists are here to help.
*See Demi
Demi
A demi color is very versatile. Think of a demi as a light wash of color. Getting a demi for your natural hair can tint it a little bit. Typically, when someone gets a demi service, it is with or in between a highlight or balayage appointment. A demi service only takes about 30 minutes. The great thing about demi color is that it can stretch out the time in between your big job color appointment.
How to care for your color at home
Just like our natural hair, all color fades over time. The sun will fade color over time, the ocean strips color, and chlorinated pools also affect hair color. We want our clients to be able to have fun despite this. After a vacation or traveling, booking an appointment for a demi can help.
Make sure you are using the right products. Getting your hair colored takes a lot of time and money, so make sure you get the most of it. Some hair products will also fade color over time. Make sure to use a sulfate free shampoo. Make sure to use a heat protectant if you use any heat on your hair. Heat can remove color as well. Many of our clients use Aveda’s color control and botanical repair™ lines. You don’t have to get every product for colored hair right away, but definitely start off with a shampoo and conditioner.
Sometimes if you get your hair colored quite frequently, or if your hair is brittle, it can get damaged from color. If your stylist recommends an in salon treatment, definitely do it. We love beautiful results here, but we prioritize healthy hair first. With our treatments, you will be able to have both. It just takes time and love.
Extensions
What to look for when you purchase hair
When you purchase hair, make sure to purchase 100% human hair. This way, it can be styled. Synthetic hair will melt when it is exposed to heat.
In the Salon
If you have any additional hair in when booking your appointment, make sure to call and let us know so we can book an appropriate amount of time for your appointment. We do offer maintenance in the salon. If you would like to try extensions, sew-ins, etc. for the first time, you can book a consultation and speak with a stylist about pricing or do so during another appointment.
Out of the Salon
Since extensions are like human hair, make sure to take care of them as you would with your regular hair. Use conditioner on your hair and be very gentle when you detangle it. When brushing your extensions, start from the ends and work your way up. If you style your extensions with heat, be sure to use heat protectant. These steps ensure that your extensions will still look nice and full. Lastly, come to the salon once a month for maintenance.
Texture Services
Keratin
Would a keratin treatment be right for you?
We use different KERATINCOMPLEX® treatments at the salon depending on your hair type and the results you want.
If you want to block humidity, eliminate frizz, and have more manageable hair that is smooth and shiny while keeping your hair healthy, then a keratin treatment may be right for you. Although a keratin appointment is a long appointment, the results last a long period of time. Depending on the type of treatment you get, they last 3-5 months.
How often do you need a keratin treatment?
If you get a keratin treatment with us, you will definitely see a difference. After a few months, if your hair becomes dull, frizzy, unmanageable, and/or takes a while to dry it’s time to book your next treatment. Make sure you have ample time for your appointment.
Post Keratin Care
All of our keratin treatments offered at MIXD.Salon are KERATINCOMPLEX®.
If you got KERATINCOMPLEX® NKST wait 72 hours to shampoo. Avoid pulling up your hair tightly, elastic bands, buns, and braids.
For KCMAX™ you can do your usual hair routine straight away.
KERATINCOMPLEX® PBO requires no downtime as well.
KCTEXTURE™ also requires no downtime.
Not sure which KERATINCOMPLEX® you got? Ask your stylist.
Relaxer
A relaxer is a service that chemically changes the structure of your hair from wavy/curly/ coily to straight. Based on hair type and texture, relaxers are done between 6-12 weeks.
Who is a candidate for a relaxer?
For any guest who wants to permanently straighten their hair.
What to expect during your appointment
An in depth consultation to determine the relaxer system best suited for your hair type/texture. Analyzing your hair and scalp for any indications that irritation may occur. After the relaxer system is chosen guests will receive a conditioning protective made cream on the scalp, relaxer is applied and processed based on manufacturer’s guidelines for your hair type/texture. A through rinse and a post chemical infuser is applied to the hair to replace any nutrients removed during the relaxer process. This post chemical infuser is filled with amino acids and will sit on the hair for 3 mins, the hair is neutralized with neutralizing shampoo and conditioned and styled.
Relaxer Maintenance
As with any chemical service you must keep your hair conditioned and not use excessive heat styling. Based on hair type and texture, relaxers are done between 6-12 weeks.
Skin and Body Services
MIXD.Salon is a full range salon. We have a private room downstairs for esthetician services.
Facials
Come ready to be relaxed and feel rejuvenated. Remove makeup and necklaces. If you have a busy day and can’t remove your makeup prior to your appointment, your esthetician can remove it for you at the salon. Be sure to tell your esthetician which facial products you are currently using. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy.
Waxing
Before your wax appointment
Be sure to exfoliate before your waxing appointment to ensure smoother results. Try to shower before you get waxed, that way you can avoid doing so after your appointment.
After your waxing appointment
It is important to let your skin “breathe” after a wax. As much as you want to feel or touch your skin, please refrain from doing so. The tightness of clothing may cause irritation/redness on your skin, so be sure to wear loose underwear and pants. If you need to shower after, use lukewarm to cool water. Please refrain from going to the gym, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and intimacy at least 24 to 48 hours after to wax. Any type or bacteria, even sweat, can cause severe irritation on freshly waxed skin.
